For Varsity Volleyball this year, coach Chuck Smith decided to divided the players into two separate squads. The red team and the white team. Both teams worked hard and won most of their games this season. In the final game of the regular season, the red and white team went head to head for the gold playoffs. The White team won and earned the chance to compete for the gold banner. Sadly, luck and the refs were not on the White teams side as they lost to Saint Ignatius in the semifinals. Ending their season and the HSPS Volleyball career for some of our 8th graders.
I interviewed Natalie Allred (a player on the White team) to get some more insight on the season.
Lucia: “So how do you think the white team did in our last game?”
Natalie Allred: “I think we did really well and played with a lot of energy and we’re really trying our best.”
Lucia: “Do you think we played well overall?”
Natalie Allred: “Yes, I think we played amazing overall! We all worked really well together as a team!”
Lucia: “Was it a good last season for the 8th grade?”
Natalie Allred: “Yes, it was a great last season! I think all the 8th graders made a great impact on our team and we will definitely miss them next year.”
Lucia: “Any advice for the future varsity team?”
Natalie Allred: “I think that you just all need to make a strong connection and bond and be able to work well together. And are always helping out others if they need it to all strengthen the team.”

The 8th graders on the Red team had a much more upbeat ending to their last dance. As they won the silver banner on our home court.
I talked with two rookies on the varsity Red team, Eva Ebbert and Sofia Morales.
Lucia: “What was your favorite part about this season?”
Eva Ebbert: “My favorite part about this season was how we were able to get the banner.”
Sofia Morales: “Winning. Just kidding.I loved being involved in part of playing all the games.”
Lucia: “Why did you join the team?”
Eva Ebbert: “I joined to see how this season would go with me on the team.”
Sofia Morales: “I joined the team because I am trying to become a better player in volleyball and progress, so hopefully I will make the team in high school.”
Lucia: “Was it a good overall experience?”
Eva Ebbert: “Oh yeah, I love going to all the games, even though I didn’t get to play much, and it was really fun to play with my teammates.”

It seems that both teams found success throughout the year. While we are sad to see our 8th graders leave the HSPS Volleyball family, we are also grateful for positive impact that they have given to our program. Good luck in Club and High School Vball!
