Holy Spirit basketball is a season full of competition and fun. The boys varsity team went 1-5 in league and 2-10 overall. Because of a season full of shortcomings, The red boys varsity basketball will play in the silver bracket playoffs. They are playing on Tuesday, February 25th against Country Day Black. Holy Spirit had two wins overall, first, against St. Joseph. The next win was against SI. The red varsity basketball team played at SI the whole season. Most games that Holy Spirit played were losses, but not by much. Now let’s introduce the team, the three 7th graders are Charlie Riddell, Christian Jufiar, and Mason Jimenez..  The seven 8th graders are Patrick Casella, Robert Palanidessi, Patty Fuller,  Finn Swanston, George Morris, Kyle Carmazzi, Luke Sciandri.

I interviewed three people for the team, Robert Palanidessi, Christian Jufiar, and Mason Jimenez. The first question I asked was “how many points have you scored currently” this was in the middle of the season.  Christian Jufiar scored 67 points. Christian is a big scorer on our team. Robert Palanidessi said “I’m pushing 40” . Mason said “ 15 points so far”. Personally I have about 20 points this season.

The next question I asked was “what was your favorite part of the season: my favorite part of the season was probably when we beat St. Joseph. Christian Juifar said “ probably when we beat St.Joseph”. The good part about their first win is that they won by 15. Sadly their first win doesn’t count in the regular season. Mason Jimenez said “getting our first win and dropping 50 points” he is referring to the St. Joseph game too. Robert Palamidessi said “ Probably scrimmaging in practice” they scrimmage almost every practice usually  for 30-45 minutes at the end of practice.

The next question I asked was “ What position do you play”. There are five positions, the point guard shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and the center. Christiam Jufiar said “ I play point guard”. Mason Jimenez said “I’m the guard”. Rober Palanidessi said “ I play the small forward”. They all take up the ball in the games.

The fourth question I asked was “ how good did you think the team was going to be”. Christian Jufiar said “ Decent, like 3-3” that is what I thought too. Mason Jimenez said “I thought we were going to be decent like 3-3” it seems like that is what all the players thought. Robert Palanidessi said “I thought we were going to be okay but we are bad.” seems he got straight to the point.

The last question I asked these varsity players is “if you had a favorite game, what would it be?”. Christian Jufiar said “probably the St.Roberts game because i played against my friends”. Mason Jimenez said  “my favorite game was scrimmaging presentation because we actually did decent” i thought they did really bad against presentation but it seems they think differently.  Robert Palnidessi said “ probably the first game because I scored the most points.” .

In conclusion, I think the Holy Spirit Red varsity basketball team deserves credit for fighting in such a hard season.
