Beach volleyball is one of the most fun sports to play, especially in the summer. It is not just playing volleyball in the sand, it is about being active, getting better at volleyball and hanging out with your friends.  For players like Elizabeth, Cassidy, and Tilli, they look forward to beach volleyball every summer.

One thing that makes beach volleyball different then the indoor season is that there are only two players on each team. That means each player is getting to be more involved in the play than indoor volleyball. Elizabeth said “My favorite part about beach volleyball would be getting to touch the ball more in plays since there are only two of us and getting to play at fun places like the beach.” Cassidy said “My favorite part about beach volleyball is getting to play more and advance your volleyball techniques.”

Beach volleyball is also a great way to make friendships. Since there are only two players on each team, you have to work together. Elizabeth and Cassidy have been partners together for two years now and will be partners again this summer.

Tournaments are also a big part of beach volleyball. A Lot of players like going places like Santa Clara, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz. Tilli said “she likes coastal tournaments because they’re pretty and cool.” What most players like about tournaments is that the players get to pick the dates instead of the coaches and you get to choose where you go for the tournament.

Beach volleyball also helps players improve their indoor game. Tilli said “beach volleyball trains her for the indoor season and that it’s a totally different environment with the sand and sun. Moving in sand is harder, so it helps you get stronger and quicker.” a lot of players have improved too much after the beach season. During the beach you also learn how to play the ball smarter. Like if you tip the ball and the hit is back over then freeball it deep because they are close to the net. Learning this typeof stuff really helps players become better during indoor and can get them placed on a higher team.

One of the biggest differences between beach and indoor volleyball is the environment. Beach is more relaxed and fun. Elizabeth said “I like the freedom of not having a specific coach all the time and just playing with my friend. It makes the game feel less stressful and more about having a good time.” Most players agree that not having a coach constantly telling you how to fix things and criticizing your moves is a lot funner. And doing beach volleyball lets you have that.

Overall, beach volleyball is fun, challenging, and a great way to spend the summer. It helps you get better at volleyball, but it also gives you a chance to enjoy the sun, play with friends, and visit cool places. For these players, it’s more than just a sport, it’s something they love.
