I asked three people about what they do for Easter and their traditions. The three people interviewed were Eva Ebbert, Sophia Magnan, and Allie Pollock. They each gave a description about their traditions for Easter and what they do around this holiday.
The first question was: What Easter Traditions do you and your family have to celebrate on Easter Sunday?
Sophia’s response was, “On Easter Sunday we start the day off by going to mass and reading passages from the bible. After Mass My family and I gather at my grandma’s house. We have dinner together and all share a homemade cake made by my mom and I, usually a carrot cake. After eating we always have an Easter egg hunt for my cousin and I. We also love the tradition of cracking confetti filled paper eggs on everyone’s heads. Allie’s response was, “We go to mass, but the last couple years we usually are gone for Easter so not many.” Eva’s response was, “Going to mass with my family and then going to my cousins’ house, where we have dinner together and enjoy activities such as having an egg hunt.”
The next question asked was, Do you enjoy your traditions and why?
Asking if these traditions are enjoyable for you and your family. Sophia’s response was, “ I do enjoy my tradition as it is so fun to celebrate with others and be able to have fun laughing and hanging out with my family as we will not always be together.” Allie’s response was, “Yes it’s fun because I get to spend time with people I love but I hate being away from my grandma during water. She’s not religious but growing up I always spent Easter with her so it was a family holiday.” Eva’s response to the question was, “Yea, I like hanging out with my family and getting to go back in contact with my relatives to celebrate.”
The third question asked was, What do you enjoy most about Easter Sunday as a day?
Sophia’s response to question three was, “Just as a day I always enjoy thinking about Easter as a new start in the spring. I think of this and enjoy this as Jesus has just resurrected and I feel like I am able to have a new start, such as starting new habits.” Allie’s response to this third question was, “The connection. I have no idea how to describe the feeling you get sitting in church on such a holy day.” Eva’s response was, “I enjoy the sense of togetherness it brings through joyful gatherings and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
Question four was, What is most memorable about Easter for you?
Asking you to think back on Easter and talk about the one that was your favorite, the most exciting or just memorable overall. Sophia’s response was, “The most memorable thing about Easter for me is being able to gather with family and being able to just relax, laugh, and be able to have a good time together.” Allie’s response to the question was, “Well when I was little I would try to hide from the priest during mass and go to my grandparents house for Easter egg hunts. But now that I’m older I’d say getting to experience different masses in different places. This year I got to be in the Carmel Mission Basilica.” Eva’s answer was, “The most memorable thing about Easter is spending time with loved ones and the feeling of joy.”
The last question was, How does Easter impact you?
Sophia answered, “Easter not only impacts me religiously about thinking how Jesus died for our sins and being thankful, but mindfully. Every Easter when I hang out with family I am always thankful for the great family I have and how thankful I am to have my family with me.” Allie’s response was, “Easter impacts everyone, religious or non. I mean when everyone around you is celebrating it impacts you, but me personally I’d say it’s just a very special day with God and family.” Eva’s reply was, “Easter impacts me by bringing me a sense of peace, gratitude and hope. It also gives me time to connect with family and appreciate meaningful moments together.”
Easter is an important holiday for many and each person has their own ways to celebrate on Easter Sunday.
