The first question I asked was, “what was your favorite part of track?” Connor responded with a simple but good answer which was, “my favorite part of track was beating my previous mile time.” Amelie responded by saying, “My favorite part of running track was getting to try something new and challenging that opened up new opportunities for me.” Lastly, Sofia said, “my favorite part of running track was my personal growth in running, motivation, and meet days.” They’re all very good answers and I could probably agree with every answer given.

The next question I asked was, “what events were your favorite to run in the meets?” It was no surprise when Connor responded. He said, “my favorite events were the 100m, 1600m (a.k.a 1 mile), and long jump.” The only one that surprised me there was the long jump, seeing as how he had never tried it before. Amelie then said, “my favorite event was the 200 hurdles because I had never done hurdles before but it ended up being really fun.” Personally, I didn’t really like the hurdles for a couple reasons, but I think it was great that people tried new things and ended up liking them. Lastly, Sofia responded by saying, “my favorite events were the 100m and the 400m.”

After that, I asked them, “would you consider doing track next year?” Connor responded by saying, “I would definitely consider doing track next year.” Amelie said, “Yes, I would consider doing it next year because it was so fun and being able to run is something that I will always enjoy.” And finally, Sofia said, “I would consider doing track next year. It was an overall fun sport and I enjoyed the meets and running.” In all, it seems that most people will consider doing track next year, and the team will have at least four 8th graders including me, unless other people would consider joining.

I then asked them, “what events did you think were the easiest and hardest?” Connor said, “long jump was the easiest because it was just sprinting and then jumping as far as you can. The 1600m (or 1 mile) was the hardest because you have to pace yourself to not slow down half way through but maintain good speed.” I agree with both of those, even though long jump requires a little more technique than just running and jumping. Then, Amelie responded by saying, “in my opinion, the easiest event was the 100 because it was short and you could put all your energy into it because it would end fast. I thought the 800 was the hardest event because I never knew when to start running the fastest. It was also long.” I agree with the comparison of those as well. Even though the 800 is only half a mile, it is hard to tell the pace you want to set, because it could then affect how much energy you have to be able to sprint at the end. Lastly, Sofia responded by saying, “ I think the 400m was the easiest because it allowed me to pace myself and enjoy the running and not stress.”

The last question that I asked was, “would you recommend track to someone else?” Connor then said, “Yes, I would recommend track to Jackson, Nicolas, and Sophia Magnan.” Amelie responded by saying, “Yes, I would recommend track to someone else because it is a great chance to train and get in shape for other sports. It also gives you an opportunity to bond with the people who enjoy similar things such as track and or running in general.” Sofia then said, “I would recommend track because it is very encouraging and a fun sport that helped me grow in running.”

All in all, the track season was very successful with people enjoying different aspects of it, but also wanting to do it next year. Now that the people that have done track for the first time this year have participated, they will be more informed on how it will be next year and hopefully will have an even better time than this year.
